Prop Firms by Trading Platform
Which platforms futures prop firms support, the difference between a platform and a connection, and how to check before you buy.
By Prop Firm Duel · · updated Sep 27, 2026
Futures prop firms support different trading platforms and data connections, so check that a program supports the platform you already use before you buy. Learning new software during an evaluation adds mistakes you don't need. Tradovate and NinjaTrader were the most widely supported platforms among the futures firms we track.
Key takeaways
- Your platform holds your order types, hotkeys and habits. Keep it if you can.
- Among futures firms that list platforms, Tradovate was supported by 7 and NinjaTrader by 6.
- Rithmic is a data and order connection that works with several platforms.
- Check whether the platform costs extra, especially once you're funded.
Why does the platform matter?
Every mistake in an evaluation costs room under your drawdown. A wrong hotkey, an unfamiliar order ticket or a chart that looks different can each cause one. Staying on the platform you know removes a whole category of errors, which is worth more than most discounts.
Which platforms do futures prop firms support?
Among the futures firms in our data that list platforms, when we checked on September 26 and 27, 2026:
- Tradovate: 7 firms
- NinjaTrader: 6 firms
- Rithmic, Quantower and TradingView: 4 firms each
- Tradesea, MotiveWave, R|Trader and WealthCharts: 2 firms each
Some firms also run their own platform. See every program for your platform: NinjaTrader, Tradovate, Rithmic, Quantower, TradingView, Tradesea, MotiveWave, R|Trader and WealthCharts.
What's the difference between a platform and a connection?
A platform is the software you trade in, such as NinjaTrader or Quantower. A connection, such as Rithmic or Tradovate's, carries your data and orders between the platform and the firm. One connection can often feed several platforms, so a firm that supports Rithmic may let you use more than one platform. Check the firm's list for the exact combinations it allows.
A worked example
Say you trade on NinjaTrader with custom hotkeys and a license you already own. A program that supports NinjaTrader through its own connection lets you keep everything. A cheaper program that only supports a browser platform would mean new order tickets, new charts and new habits during an evaluation where one mistake can cost a $214 attempt. The cheaper price rarely makes up for that.
How to check platform support before you buy
- Find the platform list on the firm's own site or help center.
- Check whether the platform or its data costs extra, and whether that changes once funded. See data fees.
- Check that the evaluation and funded accounts use the same platform.
- Check the conduct rules on automated strategies and trade copiers.
Common questions
Can I use TradingView with a prop firm?
Some firms support it through a connected broker or platform. See prop firms for TradingView.
Can I use automated strategies or trade copiers?
Some firms allow them with conditions, and some don't. It's in the conduct rules, not usually the platform page.
Does the platform affect fees?
It can. Some platforms carry a license or data cost once funded. Compare total costs with the All-in Cost tool, and see how to choose a prop firm.
